OUR MISSION

What our work is all about

Our mission is to empower our community to thrive by nourishing bodies, igniting potential, and cultivating skills for a resilient and prosperous future.

Our Vision

We envision a future where communities break free from the grip of food insecurity and economic disenfranchisement. By building a network of empowered individuals, we bridge the gap between fresh food access, meaningful job creation, and trade education. We equip our community members with the skills and knowledge to navigate a just and sustainable livelihood, one that nourishes bodies, fuels economic opportunity, and dismantles the systems of disparity that hold them back. We believe that knowledge is the key that unlocks opportunity. By equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge to succeed within this network and from the household table, we empower them to become not just participants but architects of a more just and prosperous life. Together, we can build a future that is healthy, nourishes not just bodies but communities, and gives everyone the chance to thrive.

Organizational Background

CUT Bank wasn't always a project. It was a neighborhood—once vibrant, now struggling. We, the founders, grew up here, witnessing firsthand how limited access to fresh food began to chip away at the community's spirit. It wasn't just a lack of fresh produce; it was a reflection of a deeper issue—a neighborhood slowly losing its way.

As we matured, a harsh reality settled in. We realized we weren't just bystanders; we were part of the story. We saw how our environment—limited resources, a sense of hopelessness—influenced our lives and the lives of those around us. But with that realization came a powerful resolve. We couldn't change the past, but we could build a better future.

We understand the historical and systemic barriers that have limited opportunities for these communities. We weren't given all the chances we deserved when we were young, and that's exactly what we're determined to provide: chances, support, and a pathway to a brighter future.

We are fighting many different fronts. The challenges gripping our community are complex and intertwined. Neighborhood drug use and the opioid crisis have shattered lives and families. High unemployment rates and a lack of access to affordable housing trap many in a cycle of financial insecurity. Limited opportunities for education and the stigma faced by ex-cons hinder upward mobility. Food insecurity and homelessness leave residents with limited resources to build a better life.

CUT Bank emerged from a shared responsibility—a commitment to heal the wounds of our community. We combined our resources, made use of our connections, and embarked on an empowerment mission.
